Methodist Temple UMC

In discussing the Beatitudes, Pastors Randy and Andy talk about how being merciful is more than being willing to forgive sin. Mercy is caring so deeply about someone's plight that we are moved to action. We see this in the life of Jesus again and again.

Trappist monk Thomas Merton said, "The spiritual journey is about becoming what you already are." Pastors Randy Moore and Andy Payton discuss how that saying gets at what's behind Jesus' fourth Beatitude in the Gospel of Matthew. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they will be filled."

Pastors Randy and Andy continue to unpack the Beatitudes. What did Jesus mean when he said the poor in spirit are blessed? Is it possible that the poor in spirit today are those who become aware of their need for loving relationships that push back against isolation and result in the appearance of the risen Christ?
